To get into Communicator and begin to make aweb page:

  1. Open up Netscape Communicator.
  2. Choose Communicator>Composer. You will get a blank Composer screen.
  3. If you have a file already (such as a template file) look below atthesection called "To open up and work on a page you worked on previously:"
  4. Begin to insert information on your web page (see inserting images, creatinglinks below).
  5. Click on the Save button or choose File>Save.
  6. Adjust where you want to save the document (to your disk).
  7. Give it a filename WITH NO SPACES, then a period, then html (e.g. noodle.html). Click on Okay.
  8. You will be prompted to give the page a title. This title will eventually come up at the top of the page when someone browses the page.
  9. Click Okay.
To take a look at your page in Navigator:
  1. Restore the Navigator window by clicking on the button in your task bar.
  2. Go to File>Open Page click on Choose File and then find yourfile.
  3. Now you can use the task bar at the base of your screen to "ping pong" back and forth between the Navigator and Composer windows. When you makea change in Composer, click on the Save icon, switch to Navigator,and hit Reload to see the change.
  4. Note: you can also use the Preview button to see your changes.
To open up and work on a page you worked on previously or to open a template page:
  1. Open Netscape Communicator.
  2. Choose File>Open Page then choose Find File and find thefile you want to work on.
  3. Edit the file and save it normally. (If you have text in a word processing program that you want to insert, you can do it by opening the word processing program, copying the text, coming back to Composer, and pasting the text.)
To add an image to your web page:
  1. In Composer, choose Insert>Image click on Choose File and find your image file.
  2. Click Open.
  3. Options for text wrap are available here as well.
  4. Click Okay.
  5. Make sure this file itself is stored on the same disk and in the same folderas your web page.
To make text or image a link:
  1. Highlight the text or image and click on the Link icon.
  2. Type in or copy and paste the web address you want. Click Okay .
  3. If you want to link to another of your own files, click on Choose File,find your file, click on Open and then click on Okay .
To remove the link from some text:
  1. Highlight the text that is erroneously linked.
  2. Click on the Link icon.
  3. Choose Remove Link.
  4. Click on Okay.


To change the background of a page orchange text color:

Go to Format>Page Colors and Properties and click on the Colorsand Background tab. To change the page Title: Go to Format>Page Colors and Properties and click on the Generaltab. To add anchor to your page (so that people canjump to this place using links in the page):
  1. Get your cursor to the place you want the target.
  2. Click on the Target icon, give your target a name, and click    Okay.
  3. To link to this spot, you will highlight the text from which you want tolink, choose the Link icon, click on the target to which you want to link from the list in the box at the bottom of the screen, and click Okay.
To make text link to your e-mail so people can click and send you a message:
  1. Hightlight the text you want to link (e.g. your e-mail address)
  2. Click on the Link icon.
  3. Type in mailto:yourusername@whatever.edu and click Okay.
