you will get kids to apply critical thinking as they interact with a particular
piece of material.)
Consider: Modern Fashion and Invention (Media), Lit Circles noting students'
on-line work (Language Arts), Software Evaluation (Math)
III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM.
Note: This is very similar to II., but these
artifacts will show your implementation skills (i.e.. artifacts
show you actually doing this work).
Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies
for applying technology to maximize student learning.
Teachers:
A.
facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards
and student technology standards.
-
How does this artifact help you address curricular standards using technology?
(Be explicit about what standards students will be meeting, including both
subject specific standards and technology standards.)
Consider: Science Spreadsheet (Science), Modern Fashion and Invention
(Media), ABC Book (Social Studies), Lit Circles (Language Arts), Software
Review (Math).
B.
use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the
diverse needs of students.
-
How does this artifact show you using technology in the context of a
constructivist approach (e.g. "learner-centered strategies")?
Consider: Biography (Social Studies), Video Production (Media), Modern
Fashion and Invention (Media), Culture Kit (Social Studies)
C.
apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
-
How does this artifact show you using technology to help students do
critical thinking and creative work?
Consider: Biography (Social Studies), Video Production (Media), Modern
Fashion
and Invention (Media), Culture Kit (Social Studies)
D.
manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.
-
How does this artifact show you managing students' use
of technology in learning activities?
Consider: Video, noting how you would have students make video, including
what jobs each kid would have (Media)
IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION.
Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment
and evaluation strategies.
Teachers:
A.
apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using
a variety of assessment techniques.
-
How does this artifact show you using technology to assess kids
in a variety of ways? (Using a video of a student reading or e-mailing
a student comments on his or her web page work here, as would the
use of a computer-based testing program.)
Consider: Planning/ Teaching/ Reflecting (Math)
B.
use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results,
and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize
student learning.
-
How does this artifact show you collecting data about students and communicating
them to others?
Consider: Media Literacy Ethnography (Media)
C.
apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate
use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.
-
How does this artifact show you evaluating students' use of technology?
Consider: Modern Fashion and Invention (Media)
V. TEACHERS USE TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE PROFESSIONAL
PRACTICE.
Teachers:
A.
use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development
and lifelong learning.
-
How does this artifact show you using technology to help you
learn and develop professionally?
Consider: A link to a professional organization, such as the NCTM
page (Math)
B.
continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed
decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
-
How does this artifact show you reflecting on the use of technology
in school?
Consider: A project from 3850 such as Channel One or News Analysis (3850),
Software Review (Math), Media Literacy Ethnography (Media)
C.
apply technology to increase productivity.
-
How does this artifact show you using technology to make your job easier?
(Computerized grade books often come to mind here, but be careful that
the tool doesn't drive the teaching! Better examples might show the
ability to organize and modify multiple versions of assignments, save copying
time by posting information on the web, etc.)
Consider: Word Study Box (Reading), Literature Database (Language Arts)
D.
use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and
the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

Notes:
You might be wondering how you might connect the culture kit to the
technology portfolio. Remember, the root of the word technology'
is a word which means 'to weave' or 'to build'. Whenever we use tools
to communicate (pencil, printing press, digital camera) we are using communication
technology. Your culture kit certainly qualifies as technology in
this sense. Of course, some of the people who will be reading your
telefolio may not be as enlightened as you, so I would encourage you to
include a digital photo of your culture kit and make note that, when you
make culture kits with your kids, you will have your students document
their kits with digital photos. |
