Partnership Description
Faculty from ASU and several elementary schools in Watauga and Avery
County have entered into a long-term
partnership project. The purpose is to explore ways to improve
the curriculum and instruction of this public K-8 changes that result.
The project will focus on staff development, curriculum development and
alignment, student improvement in reading and math, pre-service teacher
field experiences, and teacher/university collaborative research.
The curriculum development and alignment will emphasize reading/language
arts, math, technology, and the integration of reading and math into science
and social studies curriculum. This longitudinal project will
utilize qualitative and quantitative methods. Documentation will highlight
the impact of professional development on school-wide change and on student
performance in reading and math. In addition we will research
