School and Community | The Mabel Community is a
rural area of western Watauga County, in Zionville, North
Carolina. A lot of countryside scenery can be seen
in the community, ranging from cows in pastures to
beautiful mountains, such as "Tater Hill"
and "Snake Mountain". There is a warm and
friendly welcome found in Mabel from all the
residents. There are a variety of churches found in
Mabel, mostly Baptist and Methodist. In the Mabel
community there is a volunteer fire department, which is
also the first responders. Each year, they put out
a cookbook, filled with yummy recipes of good Southern
cooking. Everyone in the Mabel community is more
than eager to help anyone in need. Mabel Elementary School has numerous events that relate to the community. Each fall there is a Fall Festival at Mabel. This always brings out people in the community, for a pig-pickin' and a game of Bingo. Also, the school allows community members to use the facility to have spaghetti suppers or other functions. In the future, there will be an outdoor picnic facility for community and school use. The community and the school are very close and willing to help one and other anytime, anyway.
