Story Pictures for Teachers

    Story pictures are wonderful ways to connect your students to using basic computer skills.  This particular activity can be done in a fourth grade class.

Teacher Input

1.  Have the students copy and paste the pictures from this web page, or the student activity web page on a word processing document.
2.  Allow the students to paste the pictures in an order in which they find a logical sequence.
3.  Next the students will add text to their stories.  The teacher should review the elements of a story including setting, characters, character's goals, plot and theme.
4.  The students should work on proper keyboarding techniques.
5.  The class should edit their work.
6.  Have students print a hard copy of the work.

Standard Course of Study

Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum  4th Grade

2.2 Practice proper keyboarding techniques for upper and lower case letters.
2.4 Edit a word processing file to make indicated corrections.
3.1 Create, format, save and print a word processed document.
 

English Language Arts Curriculum 4th Grade

1.04 Increase reading and writing vocabulary through: writing process, writing as a tool for learning.
3.03 Consider the way language and visuals bring characters to life, enhance plot development and produce a response.
4.08 Focus revision on a specific element such as word choice, sequence of events and ideas, transitional words, sequence patterns.
4.10 Use technology as a tool to to gather, organize and present information.
 

Basic Helpful Hints

1.  When you are trying to cut and paste the pictures, right click on the mouse.
2.  While working on a word processed document, you can right click to format object, then use tight wrap.  This allows you to move your pictures with no worries about your text moving around.  This will be especially helpful to the students.
