1. What is the problem of Addy's family that we are introduced to in
this section? What are there attempts at solving this problem?
After they were freed they had to leave their
baby Esther and cannot find Addy's older brother, Sam who left
them before the war was over. They are putting ads in a newspaper and planting
vegetables to see to raise money so that Addy's dad can go back to the
plantation they lived on and get the baby.
Passage Picker
Your job is to pick passages from your section that your group can
talk about. Choose passages that satisfy
these requirements:

Passage 1
p. 42 par. 4
"No, we don't...believe me."
Why is Harriet crying? She has just found out that her uncle that
she is so proud of has died.
The author uses this passage to persuade the reader to feel compassionate
towards Harriet.
I chose this passage because the author was trying to persuade the
reader to see that Harriet is a real person, too.
