This literature circles unit was designed for fifth grade students and accomodates a variety of reading levels within that age group.  It is based on a series of historical fiction novels that focus on a specific time period and address two related social studies topics.  There are four fifth grade social studies lessons linked to the unit that support the content of the literature, as well as launch and closing activities, a North Carolina Standard Course of Study alignment, a bibliography page, and appropriate modifications for special needslearners.
