Concept Maps

Definition:
A Concept map is a graphic organizer which offers a method to represent information visually. They are designed to help the reader note relationships between key concepts or events.

Purpose: Concept maps harness the power of our vision to understand complex information "at-a-glance." Because our brain interprets incoming information to make meaning, it is easier for the brain to make meaning when information is presented through visual formats. This is why a picture is worth a thousand words. A practical application to your classroom is to use concept maps to aid students in brainstorming and then organizing the information.
