333 Marigold Lane

East Bend, NC

Dear Ernest,

I am writing this letter to tell you what I have been doing since I left East Bend right after the bank in town failed. Times have been tough her to because of the depresion. Have you been able to find work? What about your friend Jed? I am very lucky to have work. Ed and I work in a bakery owned by a old man with a big nose and a mustache. He never smiles. We like him.

He has a very nice niece who came to stay. She likes plants. She grows them in the city. It makes people smile. But, her uncle doesn’t. The girl is planing a surprise for her uncle. She planted so many flowers on the roof that it looked like a real garden. She has used a lot of the broken stuff from the bakery to put the plants in.
