The Head Start program gives children between the ages of three to five preparation for school. Sarah Sheppard is the lead teacher of the Head Start Program. She started at Mabel in January 2000. She is originally from Elk Park, North Carolina. Her Father is a minister, her Mother is a nurse, and she has three sisters. She has been involved with Early Childhood Education for the past five years. She has her child care credentials and plans to return to school to obtain a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Brenda H. Wilson is the teacher assistant in the Head Start program
at Mabel Elementary. She has been a part of the Mabel family
for two years. She is from the Mabel community, and several generations
of her family have lived in Mabel. She has been married for eighteen
years and has a twelve-year-old daughter. She enjoys reading, especially
true crime books! She enjoys crafts, collecting cookbooks, and copper
containers. Her most memorable moment occurred on a cold day when
the fire alarm was set off at the school. It was not just a drill,
so the school was evacuated and forced to stand outside in the cold weather.
The children did not like the cold weather, so they all huddled together
in a group to keep warm. However, the whole group ended up getting
on the Head Start van and turned the heat on high.
