THIS PAGE IS DESIGNED FOR TEACHERS USING THIS ACTIVITY WITH THEIR STUDENTS!  IT IS GEARED TOWARDS 4TH GRADE BUT CAN BE ALTERED TO FIT OTHER GRADES ACCORDINGLY.

THIS LESSON MEETS OBJECTIVES FOUND IN THE NORTH CAROLINA STANDARD COURSE OF STUDY FOR AREAS SUCH AS LANGUAGE ARTS, COMPUTER SKILLS, AND INFORMATION SKILLS.  STUDENTS GAIN A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF KEY CONCEPTS OF WRITING, AS WELL AS EXPERIENCE USING DIGITAL CAMERAS AND THE NETSCAPE COMPOSER PROGRAM.

This assignment meets several objectives in the following areas for 4th Grade:

Materials:
* Objects that can be used to inspire children's creativity, such as old cameras, kitchen appliances, or tools.  (Keep in mind that these items can get broken, so make sure they are of no value to you)

* At least one digital camera

* Disks for both the camera and the student

* A computer that can access Netscape Composer and Adobe Photoshop

The following Rubric can be used to evaluate and assess student work:

Student did not participate in group activity or personal work study.  Web page is non existent, or minimally complete.  Digital images are not evident, thus concluding that student did not understand how to use digital camera and/or Netscape Composer. Student displays minimal participation in group work.  Does not exhibit proper use of digital camera.  Web page includes 1/4 (or less) of the required material.  Student fails to show knowledge of technology offered. Student does not put full effort into group participation.  Does not help with digital photographing.  Web page includes 1/2 of the required material.  Student shows minimal knowledge of technology offered. Student participates in group activity.  Takes digital photos, but does not apply them to the web page correctly/effectively.  Includes 3/4 of the required material.  Displays good knowledge about the technology offered. Student actively participates in group activity.  Takes on leadership roles and inspires peers.  Takes digital photos and correctly includes them in web page.  Creates an appealing web page that is functional and accurate.  Includes 95-100% of required material.
