 Artifact 1
Creative Picture Story:  An on-line activity for third graders in which they sequence events with illustrations to make a creative story.

Context
This web page was created during the class in my block that dealt with integrating media and technology into teaching.  It includes an on-line activity for third graders as well as links to some NCSCS competencies covered.  The students learn to sequence events with creativity, and to copy and paste pictures onto a word-processing document.

Impact.
The students learn to sequence events with creativity, and to copy and paste pictures onto a word-processing document.  This experience corresponds to the NC Standard Course of Study for third grade in both Language Arts and Technology Skills.  These competencies are linked from the web page.  Because it is a web page, teachers can access it and use it in their own classrooms easily.

Alignment
This web page activity provides an innovative approach to learning sequencing of events with Language Arts through the use of computer skills (Tech Comp 10.4)
The students are encouraged to be creative by putting the pictures in another order and making up a story to go with the illustrations.  This work is produced on a word processing program so that students can display their work.  While the students work, I will assess their word processing skills including copying and pasting and navigation through a web page, which will help prepare them for the Computer Skills Assessment (Tech Comp 10.5)
Links within the web page show teachers and students what competencies are covered with the activity (Tech Comp 10.1)
This activity uses technology to facilitate teaching strategies specific to the discipline of Language Arts (Tech Comp 11.4) because the web page encourages creative writing.  Since this activity has pictures on the web page, it is easily understood and makes it easy to inspire creative writing (Tech Comp 11.2).
In this lesson, students work on sequencing events as well as creative writing.  Teachers could divide students into pairs to do this project, or they could do the project individually.  More advanced students could even make their own "story pictures" for others to make a story with.   This activity enables the teacher to demonstrate a variety of instructional strategies when teaching creative writing and critical thinking (INTASC # 4)
During the activity, I will informally assess the students’ ability to cut and paste information onto a word document.  I am assessing this information to be sure that the students can benefit intellectually through technology.  I will also collect their stories and formally assess to make sure that they have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and to make sure that they are sequenced in a way that makes sense.  This assessment will provide information that I can use to see social and intellectual development of the learner.  Therefore, through this artifact, I have shown my ability to assess student learning (INTASC #8).
