Artifact 3- Create a Web Story
This artifact complies with the Computer/Technology competency goals and the Language/Arts competency goals.

Context

This activity was created during my Media and Learning course prior to my student teaching.

Impact

This activity allows students to become familiar with the Internet world.  The students are able to communicate to people all over the world in a quicker manner.

Alignment

Students in the second grade can use this activity to become familiar with the computer, (save, retrieve, copy, etc.) and also how to communicate through media technology.  The students are asked to create a story using pictures that are on the website and they will learn how to maneuver and arrange text so that it will appear as a story with the arrangement of their pictures.  The web page includes directions for creating their web story.  Also on the web page are links to show teachers how this activity satisfies the language/arts and computer/technology competencies. Technology competency goal 10.1 is met because the students are creating a web story that meets the objective that deals with certain computer skills that they need to know.  This activity satisfies technology competency goal 11.1 because students communicate to the teacher and the class through media and technology by creating their story in a word processing program and then linking it to the web.  Technology competency goal 11.2 is met because the web story is a visual model of the assignment that is to be completed.  This activity also satisfies 11.4 because I use the web story that I created as a model for them to see.  It will be displayed on the big screen in the computer lab and I will go through each step to create and link the story.  This activity is specially suited to meet the needs of media and technology and it helps the students to communicate by using media and technology.  Technology competency goal 12.7 is met because I am using the web story activity to model the assignment and then the students word-process a story using the pictures that I model on the big computer screen.
