What's Happening in Ms. Familar's Class: I would first like to express how excited I am as we really get started with school.  This will be a great year and I am blessed to have such a great class.  We will be doing lots of fun activities as well as learning lots of important stuff.  This will be an exciting month as we begin to study animals.  They will be part of every subject, from math to reading to even art and music.  We will begin the month studying about animals of the arctic.   To begin this unit we will study the tundra and how it influences what animals live there.  For fun activities to do with your child at home go to: http://tqjunior.thinkquest.org/3500/Activities.html Towards the middle of the month we will change directions and talk about some animals that we can find right here in this area.  During this time if you have any pets at your home we will encourage you to bring them in.  I will send out another letter to let to schedule a time so that we will not have a mad house in our classroom.  On the 20th of this month we will be going to visit the Virginia Zoological Park.  If you are interested in coming along on this trip as a volunteer, please call me at the school between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. or send a note to me with your child. Our last part of the month will focus on animals that are found in warmer climates such as the rainforest.  We will be creating our own rainforest for display as part of the Open House.  Feel free to be part of the helping hands to put this project together.  We are excited to be learning about animals and how they influence us.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
