Relevant Experience:
Child Care Provider, Fall 2001.  I picked up a third grader from school while her mom was at work.  I took her home where we did homework together.  During this time, I helped her with any homework, created math experiences for her to complete, and assisted with reading time.

Internship, Beech Mountain Elementary School, Elk Park, NC, Fall 2001.  Cooperating teacher: Ms. Mary Aldridge.  During this experience, I worked with second, third, and fourth grade students.  This was an opportunity to prepare me for student teaching.  I observed, assisted, and taught these students to become more familiar with the grades.  I taught the students several lessons throughout the curriculum including math, science, social studies, and language arts.  I independently led one-on-one reading instruction with a second grade child working on reading comprehension skills and word recognition.  I read several different books to the students on a daily basis to expose them to different types of literature.  I also offered help to my cooperating teacher in any way that she needed me to.

Drama Workshop Instructor, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC, Summer 2001.  Through this experience, I led several children through a weeklong drama workshop.  The students ranged in age from six to ten years of age.  Classes included improvisation, mime, and acting from stories.  I taught concepts for mask making, activities for projection and body language, and performing for an audience.
 

Creative Drama Student Teacher, Hardin Park Elementary School, Boone, NC, Fall 2000.  I conducted and organized lessons for kindergartners for four weeks.  I attended Hardin Park once and week and was in constant contact with the students.  I created lesson plans that introduced concepts of drama to the kindergarteners.

Camp Director, Camp Wannagoma, Gatesville, NC, Summer 2000.  I was the overall director of counselors and teachers.  During this experience I was in charge of training the counselors on how to have a successful camp.  I created lessons and programs for campers including lessons about diversity, animals, and science I taught several classes for the camp such as arts and crafts and the lesson of the week.  I was also in charge of organizing field trips, planning where they would go swimming each week, and providing entertainment, learning and fun for eight weeks.

Tutor, Hardin Park Elementary School, Boone, NC, Fall 1999 – Spring 2000
During this experience, I tutored two students with their homework.  I also created activities for them to do during our time together.  These included science experiments, reading several books together, and math activities.
