Artifact 3
Newsletter
to communicate with the parents of my students. It tells them
important information on what their students will be doing throughout the
year and lets them know the names of the students within my classroom.
Rationale for the Artifact: Desktop Publishing Newsletter
To Parents
Competency 12.3: “Use computers and other technologies
effectively and appropriately to communicate information in a variety of
formats on student learning to colleagues, parents, and others.”
Context:
I created this artifact during the summer of 2001 in Classroom use
of the Microcomputer in grades K-12. This artifact was used to show
how I used the computer and other technologies to communicate information
effectively in the classroom. It shows a variety of information and
formats in a newsletter on the students learning in the classroom.
To create this newsletter I went to Microsoft Publisher and chose a newsletter
format to create. Then I laid it out in the appropriate form to fit
my information. I then developed my own newsletter by using this
lay out. To fit my information I changed the pictures using clipart
online. To add some enhancement to this newsletter we also took pictures
of ourselves with a digital camera and placed them on the newsletter.
This was a very fun project to me and I think that it can be very useful
in a real classroom setting.
Impact:
As a future teacher, I will be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North
Carolina and I will use this skill of making a newsletter to inform my
parents and colleagues of what is going on in my classroom. It will
inform others of what the students are studying in class and what kinds
of activities that will be done in the future.
Alignment:
The newsletter printout of information aligns with competency
12.3 – as a future teacher in North Carolina; I know that I will uses
these skills to help relay information from place to place and to keep
others informed of important events to come.
The newsletter also aligns with INTASC
principle 10 - it will allow me to communicate effective relationships
with school colleagues, parents, and agencies within the community to support
students' learning and well-being. I know that a newsletter will
come in handy in any classroom for communication and as a future teacher,
I plan to make it a big part of mine.
