Artifact: Lesson Plans, Internet Resources, And A Listserv For Teachers

Competencies:

Competency 13.4 “Use appropriate local, state, and national services or resources to meet diverse learning needs through technology”

Alignment to INTASC Standards:

This artifact aligns with INTASC Standard 9 because it contains a listserv created by professional colleagues whose purpose is to support fellow teachers with ideas and techniques that have proved successful in the classroom.  It gives teachers new ideas and allows other teachers to reflect on successful activities that have made learning a success for many students.  This is a listserv that provides ideas about teaching and will help me to grow professionally.

Context:

This artifact is divided into three separate parts. It contains a link to an educational resource website, an email from a listserv provided for teachers, and exploration on a site for assistive technology.
The artifact contains a link to a database provided by the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC).The website for this database is http://ericir.syr.edu.The website serves as assisting technology for teachers by providing educational resources for different content and grade levels. The lesson plans that are found at thiswebsite are resources that I could use in my future classroom to teach art or science material. The ERIC is a federally funded, national information system that provides individuals with knowledge and resources to help further education within the classroom.“ERIC is a nationwide system of Clearinghouses and support agencies designed to help educators, librarians, and the general public keep up to date on educational-related issues.”[1]
The second part of the artifact is an email from a teacher listserv that gives teachers advice or tips that they can use within their classroom. It allows teachers to share effective ideas on ways to better the classroom and get advice from other teachers. The print out that I received contained tips on how to encourage parental involvement in the classroom. The email is updated and sent out to teachers one a week.It is a great way for teachers to communicate with one another on ways of bettering education.

The last part of this artifact is a description of my exploration on a site called Pat’s Carolina Connection. This is a site for disabled people who use assistive technology.Assistive technology is any item, system, or piece of equipment that allows those who are disabled to improve or better their capabilities to function on certain task. This website has a calendar to tell when conferences or workshops will be held to assist those who are disabled or help with the disabled. It also has a classified section that has a list of various assistive technological tools that are being sold and how much each device costs. It informs the general public of ways to help further funding for this service. It tells what services are offered to the disable and ways of obtaining the assistance. It is a great resource to use if a teacher is searching for devices to help assist the disabled in his or her classroom. The school can use the website to search for services that can help better the school for disabled students.

Impact:

I will be licensed to teach K-6 and will use this website to better my classroom and search for ways to assist my students who are disabled.  This artifact meets competency 13.4 because it illustrates the use of internet and national sources as a way for teachers to learn to meet diverse learning needs through tachnology.  It illustrates that teachers can adjust computer settings to meet learning disabilities, contact national resources for tools to make the classroom a more successful environment for students with disabilities, and offers a national resource website for teachers to use to gain lesson ideas for the classroom.  Through this information teachers can use technology as a means to make learning a fun and successful experience for all students.
