Experience
Student Teaching, General Greene Elementary School, Greensboro, NC, Spring 2002. Cooperating teacher: Ms.Kim Thomas.
During my student teaching experience, I observed, taught, and worked with students on a second grade level. I taught math through hands on exploration of centers and investigation activities. I introduced students to math concepts by allowing them to explore certain mathematical strategies so that they may better understand how math connects to our world. I taught students the writing process by modeling rough drafts of my own work, having writing conferences with the students about their own work, and revising my own work to show students the important of reviewing and drafting their own writings. I implemented the use of reading basils and literary units to help students recognize themes in units. The use of basils were used to teach elements of a story and assist students in making connections with what they read in a story. I furthered students' understanding of the use of language through daily language and spelling activities. I also made use of the IRI, WRI, and ERSI assessment instruments to determine the instructional levels of my students so that I would know how to form lesson plans to fit all needs.

Internship, Mabel Elementary School, Zionville, NC, Fall 2001. Cooperating teacher: Mrs. Tamara Stamey.
During my internship experience, I worked with students in a first grade classroom. My internship experience gave me the opportunity to observe, teach, and assist students so that I could learn more about the first grade classroom and about students' development at this stage in the elementary school curriculum. Observing the developmental stages of my first grade students and working with the first grade curriculum helped to prepare me for my student teaching experience. I worked with small reading groups, both lower and higher level readers, to further students' reading comprehension and abilities. I taught both language arts and helped assist writing workshops with the students. Writing workshops allowed me to work one on one with the students to show them ways to improve their writing and spelling abilities. Using the Investigations curriculum, I also taught mathematical concepts to my class. I implemented small group interaction, whole group discussion, and hands on manilpulatives to help students' reason through mathematical ideas. I practiced using the IRI, WRI, and ERSI assessment instruments to determine students' levels of abilities. I also used the DRTA format to introduce students to a basil story and check their understanding of what we read. Throughout this experience, I provided assistance to my cooperating teacher in as many ways as possible.

Daycare Teacher, Teddy Bear Child Care Center, Asheboro, NC 27203, Summer of 1998 & 1999.
During this experience, I worked with preschool children in a three-year-old classroom. I had my own three-year-old class in which I taught weekly units of various topics, responsibilities of cleaning up, whole group discussions, etiquette, and the importance of naptime. I also worked in teaching students courtesy for peers, respect, and consideration for others. I assisted the students in daily projects, helped them form their own ideas about topics, and exposed them to many new experiences.

Summer Camp Teacher, Kids of the Kingdom, Level Cross, NC 27317, Summer 1996.
During this experience, I worked with students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. This experience took place at a summer camp help at my church. Students were taught Bible themes and introduced to many new experiences to get them excited about their time at the camp and in meeting new friends. Students were taught music, art activities, and social skills in order to gain an appreciation in individual differences and respect for peers. I assisted students in games, outdoor activities, field trips, and learning new ideas presented.
