Copyright Policies
In class, we heard a PowerPoint presentation. Within this
presentation, the professor covered what is copyrighted and the fair use
policy. We discussed particular situations to justify if they were
legal or illegal actions. In class we also discussed types of software.
They are as follow:
1. Public Domain: the software is free for everyone and may be shared
2. Shareware: the software is free for a trial basis, and then you
must pay
3. Copyrighted
a. Single-use license
b. Network - file server
In class we had an example of the possibility of copying a picture
off the National Geographical website and embedding it into our personal
website. This process is illegal, even though it is from a government
web site, the picture is for personal use. If it were used for research
or educational purposes it would be legal.
