Two Role Playing Activities
One group in our class had the following scenario:
One of the girls bought a program for the computer and her friend needed the same program for a project. She loaned her the CD so her friend can install the program on her home computer and then returned the CD.
As a class, we determined this scenario to be illegal. Sharing
software is a crime and is against copyright laws. The company only
received money for one copy although two have been "distributed" in this
case. It is illegal to copy things (install on computer or copier).
Another group in our class had the following scenario:
One student was playing around on the teacher's computer and stumbled across the grades for the class. His friends gather around and notice that their grades are low and their parents will be upset. So they change the grades so their parents will be pleased with their performance in school.
As a class, we determined this scenario to be illegal. The changing
of such property is unlawful and a crime. The students should have
told the teacher what happened, and the teacher should have a password
on the spreadsheet so that the students won't be able to stumble across
such records.
