Greetings from the fourth grade class at Bethel Elementary School, North
Carolina. I am Julia Sherril a student teacher from Appalachian State
University. During my student teaching experience at Bethel School
I am trying ways of engaging students into Social Studies besides just
using a textbook. Here is where we can really use your help!
Inside this package you will find MacGuire, "Mac" for short, our North
Carolina State bird. He is on a journey all over North Carolina to
help us learn more about the geography and how our community compares with
others. Here's where you come in:
1. When you recieve Mac, take his picture
in some seeting in your community and send that picture to us (address
below) or
2. Send us a post card of something important,
historical, etc. unique to your community. (address below)
3. After sending us only the picture and/or
postcard, you mail Mac to relatives/friends who live in a different
county with this letter tucked inside so they wil know what to do with
him. As we get the pictures, we will plot his course and this will
springboard our study of how to help children learn about the state of
North Carolina in perhaps a different manner.
We appreicate your interest and help and say a big "Thank You" in advance for your cooperation in our project. The class will end our work in the beginning of May, so Mac will need to "fly" pretty quickly in his travels. If the family who has a vist from Mac near the end of April would send him back to us at the address below, we would be most grateful. I'm sure when he arrives back in Boone, he will have many wonderful stoies to share about some of the nicest people in the N.C.
Enclosed in the package is also a picture of the fourth grade class. Send our picture along with Mac and his travels.
Thank You,
Julia Sherrill
