Teaching Philosophy

As an educator, I desire to be a role model.  I will strive to engage my students not only in the curriculum, but also in life.  I believe that it is very crucial to prepare students for this journey.  As a role model, I plan to enrich my students’ lives with character, respect, and a desire for achievement.  As a student, I was faced with many obstacles to overcome successfully. Without the encouragement and inspiration from my teachers, I would not be the person I am today.  I want to carry on this inspiration from my teachers to my future students. As I set an example for my students I will respect them as an individual also teaching them the importance of respecting me as a teacher. I am willing to promote a comfortable learning environment that will instill a sense of confidence and success in every student.  I believe that my positive outlook and hunger for knowledge will create an atmosphere of unending scholarship.
As I enter the education field, I realize the many needs that must be met for every student to effectively succeed. I want to dedicate myself to attaining and meeting every possible need to reach each student successfully.  Because each individual’s comprehension and understanding varies inevitably, I must try my best to use all possible methods of instruction to efficiently educate my students. I plan to use the kinesthetic method of instruction to help my hands-on students, the oral method to reach my students that learn through listening, an the visual method of instruction to aid in the teaching of my students that learn most easily watching what goes on around them.  I want to create the most comfortable and inviting learning environment possible.
Teaching the curriculum is very important to me. However, knowing that is such a difficult task to endeavor, I plan to do all that is possible in my power to meet each goal and objective. I do not want to short change my students of all that they need to know in order to excel to the next level.  I believe there is more to school than the three R’s.  There must be laughter and a sense of fun to go along with learning.  Without a slice of enjoyment in the classroom, it will be boring and uneventful.
My eighth grade North Carolina History teacher was my most inspirational teacher.  I will never forget the energy and power she bestowed onto us as students. She made learning fun and caused a desire and hunger for more.  She would jump around the room, wave her arms, and shout in outstanding excitement as she taught.  She was amazing!  I want to be that teacher to leave a special place in the hearts and minds of my students. I want to touch lives and make them better with an open heart and open mind.
Finally, I believe that meeting the needs of my students as well as my co-workers and administration is very crucial as I begin my career. Without a good working relationship with these people, I will be lost.  The administration and co-workers are a beneficial aspect to a teacher, especially to a new teacher. These people will be my guides and provide the encouragement I will need to continue striving toward the best educator I can be. I have been so blessed to have such special inspiration instilled in me throughout my educational career. I am motivated and dedicated to my calling in life and will strive to be all that I can as a friend, co-worker, role model, and educator.
