My Philosophy on Teaching

As a future educator I look forward to being a role model for many children.  I want to be recognized as a special individual to whom a child can feel close.  Many years ago I realized my heart belonged to teaching.  My heart has a special place in it, waiting to be filled with the lives of children.  Children are wonderful people who need love and support.  As a teacher I want to be able to give the children the love and support they need.
My philosophy of teaching is, every child can learn and grow, but they may learn in different ways.  I want my classroom to be a safe and comfortable home for students everyday.
My number one goal is to make the children feel like they are special and cared about.  I strongly believe as a teacher I must have courage.  I believe to be an affective teacher one must be able to have the courage to stand up for what you believe.  Teachers have to fight and shed tears for their students and that is what I desire to happen.  I want to stand up for my students and let them know they have a compassionate and courageous teacher.
My personal opinion is that a teacher must be in the field for the love of children, teaching and learning.  Once a teacher, I will teach the children to the best of my ability and learn as they learn.  Many times the teacher can learn from their students because the students may not be able to understand the work they are given and the teacher learns from those children how to adjust to the different learning abilities.  As a teacher I want my students to teach me as a teach them.  Learning from the experiences I have with my students will be a treasure I will cherish.
Honestly I have the desire in my heart for teaching.  I feel like I can make a difference in a child’s life for the better.  This quote sums up my feelings; “one hundred years from now the world may be different because you were important in the life of a child” (unknown).  If I can lead one child from hating school to enjoying school, or get a child involved in school, the feeling in my heart will be complete.
When I am around children my feeling inside changes and I feel the need to protect the children.  I want to protect the children from the hatred toward school.  Student’s need to enjoy coming to school and love school.  I want my students to feel protected against the negativity towards learning.  I also want to protect children from the outside world that can be harmful to them.  Many times children do not have a life at home, which is best for them.  They have no support coming from home and I want that to be different in my classroom.  I want my students to feel encouraged and feel like they can be protected.   Children have wonderful smiles that brighten my day and hugs that embrace me.
I truly love children and my philosophy is to teach for the love of children. I will make it possible in my classroom to accommodate all children in order for learning to occur. I will do my best to accommodate all students in my classroom by helping find instructional strategies for students on all different learning levels.  The students will be working on their own level and have work to complete at an independent level.  For example, in reading class I would break the students into groups based on their instructional reading level in order for the students to successfully comprehend the reading.  I believe all students can learn but learn differently.  Many students may not learn as quickly as others and those students need to learn own their own level with scaffolding from the teacher.  I want to be there to help the students who need my guidance with any work they are struggling with.  I know all children can learn and I will strive to be there to support the children in anyway possible.
