W-79 THE TM L A N G U A G E L I B R A R Y STU DENT MANAG EM ENT SYSTEM Overview In a networked lab, The Rosetta Stone Student Management System records the progress of students to a designated central computer and allows the teacher to design and control the content and manner in which material is learned. Features • Students use teacher-assigned User lDs/passwords in order to log into the system. • By logging in as a 'Guest,' users can go directly into the program, bypassing the Student Management System. • The student's number of attempts and time on task are recorded at each step, allowing the teacher to analyze student achievement. At the end of every session, the students' current places in the material are saved, so that when they log in again, they are taken to the chapter where they left off. The teacher can control the selection and sequence of chapters the students will work on. Teachers can choose pre-programmed sequences or design their own. This allows them to tailor The Rosetta Stone to existing textbooks and materials. The teacher can control the modes in which the material is first presented and then tested. The teacher can set the proficiency level that must be achieved before the student completes a chapter. Various reports on class or student progress can be viewed on screen, printed, or exported for use in another program. • The teacher can view and control activity by classes or by individual students. • The Rosetta Stone Student Management System works on any file-sharing network, including AppleTalk networks running over LocalTalk or Ethernet and Novell Netware systems.
