Strategies for use:

Allowing each student adequate computer experience is essential to every classroom.  By adequate I mean that each student will have regular opportunities to use computers as a method to enhance learning.  In order to accomplish this, I have set up a plan to regulate technology usage in my classroom which encourages self guided exploration as well as group research and team building skills.
    1)  Each day our class will have two leadership roles (i.e.. door holder and line leader).  These positions will be given in alphabetical order to students in the class.  We will continue to cycle through these roles during the school year.  Each morning, those students holding positions that day will be given twenty minutes to work on an educational program of the teacher's choice as it pertains to lessons and curriculum or to chose a program listed by the computers.  Program titles will be listed for students to easily access their choice or the assigned software.  Students will log their use on the sheet provided.  After each cycle, a new sheet will be placed by the computer.  This allows each student to work individually to enhance computer skills.
    2)  One day per week will be set aside for centers--not traditional centers, however.  Activities will be guided to the curriculum with the main concept being cooperative group work.  Students will use computers to research information, create illustrations, and to create products as a group.  Each group will be given one rotation per week to work on the computers to complete their projects.
    3)  The class will visit the school computer lab weekly.  During these visits, students will work on assigned activities.  For example, students will word process writings.  Skills emphasized in word processing are typing, using available tools (i.e.. spell check), and editing.  Once word processing is complete, students will proof read and edit each others' work.  After editing, corrections will be made and products will be complete.  This method encourages individual skills while highlighting the necessity of editing and cooperation.
