Focus and Review:
Read book on roles in your community (book will vary depending on area lesson is taught).  Discuss other jobs we see people doing in the community.  What are some roles kids have?

Guided Practice:
 Why are these roles important?
How are they similar to a larger community?
Since this is an on going project, the carrying out of the studentsí responsibilities is part of the guided practice.  Class/ Town meetings will be held at the end of each rotation (every 3 days- 1 week).

Independent Practice:
The students will keep an on going journal through out this unit.  They will write
5-10 sentences about our functioning community, or the activities for the day.

Assessment/ Closure:
The journals will allow me to see if they are getting the right things from our activities.  I will be able to see how they are handling the responsibilities on a daily basis, and through their journal reflections.  The Town meetings allow them to discuss and me to observe on a regular basis.
