- In my Social Studies in the Elementary Schools
course I had to do a textbook evaluation. I chose a 1st grade social
studies textbook to work with. After the textbook was chosen there
was a list of questions that needed to be answered. I had to look
at the textbook in depth to see how the publisher published the book.
In this course I did the evaluation to see how different texts were written
and to determine if I would use that textbook in my classroom.
By doing this textbook evaluation I was able to see what materials were covered in the curriculum of a first grade social studies class. The textbook evaluation also allowed me to see what type of textbooks are available for me to use in my classroom and to use as resources for lessons. As a teacher I will want to evaluate the textbooks that I will be using in my classroom.
The textbook evaluation allowed me to evaluate the textbooks that are used in schools today. I was able to determine whether this text was what I want to teach with when I begin teaching social studies. Evaluating this first grade social studies textbook fulfilled competency 10.6.
