- During my senior year at Appalachian State University
I took a media literacy class in my block. In this class I helped
create a web page lesson plan with two of the other people in my class.
The topic that we chose was body image. This web page was created
to focus on a topic that society, media, and our culture put a lot of emphasis
on. In this web page there is a lesson plan created for the second
grade class, talking about images of people from the past and present and
clips form classic movies, TV shows, and recent movies. This lesson
should help students build their self-esteem and show children that they
do not need to look a certain way.
With this web page students will learn about body image. In this lesson plan we have included the standard course of study for the second grade in the area of Language Arts and Informational Skills. This web page also has links to other Internet sites that focus on body image.
In this web page lesson plan there are links to other resources focusing on body image, and a link to the Beech/Bethal/Mabel partnership with ASU. These links fulfill competency 10.3. This lesson plan was put on the web after it was created. The lesson contains different uses of technology such as video, magazine, and Internet sources. This fulfills competency 11.1. Gathering this information enabled us to use the pictures and statistics we found on the web in the lesson. We used these pictures and statistics in our lesson when we taught it to the class. This fulfilled competency 11.4. For this web page lesson we used a variety of resources. We used magazines, Internet sources, and movies in the lesson plan. Students then analyzed the different resources that were used and created an advertisement for the body image of the future. This Part of the lesson fulfilled competency 12.1. In this lesson we used a wide variety of technology. We used a VCR for video clips computers, and magazines. Using these different forms of technology fulfils competency 11.2. It does this because the students will be able to use the different forms of media to portray the lesson that is being taught. One form may help one student and not another. Competency 12.5 is also fulfilled because the students are actively involved in a project of sorting the different types of time periods.
