Objective: To help students that are having trouble with English (ESL students) learn to match upper and lower case letters.
Materials:
A 36" x 24" pocket chart
Eight to ten pairs of letter flash cards
Write the numbers 1-16 or 1-20 randomly on the back sides of the flash
cards. Arrange the flash cards in the pocket chart in a
4 x 4 matrix. Example:

5 6 7 8
9 10 11 12
13 14 15 16
Launch: Today we are going to play a game. It's called Concentration. Behind each of the numbers on this chart is a letter. You have to match the upper case letter to the lower case letter (for example, "A" and "a").
Explore: To make sure the student understands what to do try the
first one yourself. Pick two numbers and show the students the letters
behind them. Ask the student if the two letters you picked are a
match. If they are you get to keep the pair and if they are not turn
the letters face down and it's the students turn. Have them do the
same thing. The game ends when all the letters have been paired correctly.
The game can also be played between two students or with the whole class.
