UNC-TV: This website is sponsored by the University of NC public television system. It contains a listing of educational programs that are available for teachers to tape and use in the classroom. There are also tips on how to most effectively use television in the classroom.
PBS: The Public Broadcasting System web page has a full listing of its programs, complete with explanations of what the programs are focusing on. There is a database of videos, a source for lesson plans, and tips on how to spark excitement in students.
The Discovery Channel: This site is a great source for teachers. It contains lots of lesson plans activities for students. There is also a collection of clip art to enhance a classroom web page. Some neat links are to the puzzle maker, which generates crossword puzzles from vocabulary lists, and to the quiz creator, which helps generate questions for classroom activities. There is also a great list of links to other helpful websites, such as The Learning Channel (TLC) Elementary School. This link has a list of programs for use in the classroom, as well as lesson plans to incorporate with the programs.
Cable in the Classroom: This program provides free, uninterrupted cable programming to public schools across the country. It’s website contains information on how to use Cable in the Classroom, and where to find out about it. There is a list of programs, and connections from the programs to the curriculum.
The History Channel: This
website contains a programming schedule for tapping the shows presented.
Sometimes it’s hard to make history exciting, but this site has some great
ideas. There is also a link to receive free materials for the classroom.
