I am from Ellenboro, North Carolina, which is a small town in Rutherford County. I am from a family of five and am the oldest of three girls. My younger sisters, Katie and Beth, are also students at Appalachian. Katie, too, is studying to be an elementary school teacher, while Beth is pursuing a degree in exercise science. My mother, Janet, is a nurse and works for Cleveland Home Health Agency, and my father, Roger, is the principal at Crest High School in Cleveland County.
In July of 2000, I was married to Kenny Morgan. Kenny is a graduate student at Appalachian, studying to receive a Masters degree in sport management. Kenny and I are both from Rutherford County; however, we did not meet until in college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from UNC-Chapel Hill, planning to enter the field of social work.
However, since childhood, I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I frequently played school with my younger sisters, instructing them in spelling, reading, and math. My dad also influenced my decision to teach, as I have witnessed the joys of his career in education. I enjoy working with children and actually spent last year as a teacher assistant at Davenport Elementary School in Lenoir, North Carolina. My wonderful experiences as a teacher assistant really confirmed my desire to teach; therefore, I returned to school to receive my elementary teaching certification.
During my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, playing board games, being outdoors, and spending time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to a great internship experience, in which I spend time learning from and teaching your children.
Sincerely,
Emily M. Morgan
