Goals and Commitment to Education
Teachers have power. We have the power to shape and mold the minds of our students. I am proud to have this ability, and I am looking forward to making a positive impact on my students’ lives. While they are in my hands, I plan to reach each individual by creating a positive learning environment. This will inevitably lead to my ultimate goal of increasing my students’ confidence and sense of self-worth.
I want the climate of my future classroom to be warm and inviting. I will manage my classroom in an authoritative manner, so the children will never feel threatened. At the beginning of the year, the students will help to create the rules of their classroom. They will also create the consequences if the rules are not followed. I want my students to see my class as being fair at all times. I will manage the behavior through positive reinforcement and consistent class management strategies.
"All children have gifts, some just open them at different times." This quote by Patricia Polacco stands out in my mind when I approach each student. I will also take into consideration the unique learning styles and ability levels of my students. I plan on implementing different strategies in my lessons, to meet the needs of my diverse learners. Also, by meeting the instructional level of the children, I will set them up for success, not failure. This also assists in creating a non-threatening classroom environment.
This positive learning environment will be packed with encouragement for
each child. At the end of the year, I want every student to walk
out of my class, knowing that they are special and they are loved.
I want to provide the stepping-stones for them to build a positive self-concept
that will stay with them the rest of their lives.
