Your job is to summarize what happens in the section in context with the entire book. You will make sure to discuss major issues and themes in the book.
This section encompasses
pages 56-81, which is chapters 8-11. The beginning of this section
is the part where Tate's mom and dad go to visit her aunt. They allowed
Tate to stay at home alone, so Tate decided she was going to find Sable
and get her back. She hitched a ride with Mr. Cobb, but when they
got to Sable's supposed new home, she was not there. This devastated
Tate and she was upset for a very long time. Then, all of a sudden,
in the middle of the summer, Sable showed up. She was in poor condition,
but Tate's family nursed her back to health, and built her a fence of her
very own. Tate's mother overcame her fear of dogs and the story ended
happily.
The major themes in this
book deal with character. Tate is a young, determined girl, who perseveres,
disobeys her parents, but get's what she wants. She proves to her
mother that she is mature enough to take care of a dog of her own.
Although she disobeys her parents, she is still respected and trusted by
them. Children who are truly determined to own and take care of a
dog of their own, need to read this book so they can learn the true meaning
of owning a pet.
