Echoing
page 3, paragraph 3

"Even after he'd run into the woods, Tyrus' barking cut through the crisp November air, echoing, down the valley."

Part of speech - verb

My definition - to repeat itself (repeating sound)

Dictionary definition - to repeat as if by an echo (repeating sound reflecting from a surface).

This word adds meaning to the story by emphasizing the theme of the story.  Tyrus has just killed a ewe, however just because he has run away doesn't mean that you don't continue to hear him or see what he has done.  This symbolizes the effect the nuclear plant's accident had on the people of the area.  Although the level of radiation appears to be normal, people are still suffering from the radiation and its effects.
