Nyle is bold and daring.

Page 6, paragraphs 1-4

Nyle demonstrates that she is both bold and daring when she wants to fight with Ripley.  Although she knows that Ripley is much too big and strong, she still stands her guard and defends her best friend Muncie daring Ripley to fight her.

Nyle is a loyal friend.

Page 9, paragraphs 1-6

Nyle is a very loyal friend to Muncie.  Although Ripley criticizes Nyle for being a friend to a 'freak', Nyle stands beside Muncie and defends her.  She realizes that looks aren't what's important.  She likes being Muncie's friend and doesn't care what other people say.

Nyle is determined.

Page 17, paragraph 10.

Nyle is very determined.  Although her Gran asks her to be kind and help Ezra, she is determined not to become close to Ezra and Mrs. Trent.  She refuses to help Ezra beyond the minimum.

Nyle's goal is not get emotionally close to Ezra and his mother.

Nyle's problem is that she does not want Ezra and Mrs. Trent to be in her house.  Nyle listens to her grandmother state that sometimes people must do things that they would rather not do, especially if they are not going to be around for long.  It is their responsibility to make Ezra's life meaningful.  Consequently, Nyle accepts that the Trents will be staying with them for she must accept it whether she wants to or not.  This is how Nyle's problem is solved.
