1. Describe the setting of this story.
This story takes place on the Kapiti Plain.
The one person that is in this story is named Ki-pat. The other characters
of this story are animals that live on the plain. The plain is experiencing
a drought, so the living things on the plain are starting to die due to
lack of water.
2. Why is the grass on the plain brown and dead?
The grass on the plain is brown and dead
because there is a drought. The plain has not had rain in awhile, and the
living things are starting to suffer.
3. Describe the main character, Ki-pat.
The main character is very smart. On page
15, Ki-pat creates an arrow out of a feather and stick that he found. He
used this arrow to shoot the rain out of the rain cloud above the plain
to save the plain. He is also very heroic. On page 20, he shoots the rain
out of the cloud, and the plain is saved. He is also very patient because
in the beginning of the story, he was just standing there on the plain,
waiting for it to rain (page 11).
4. Why do you think it is important for it to rain on the Kapiti
Plain?
It is important for it to rain because the
grass on the plain needs rain to grow. If the grass does not grow, then
the cows and other animals do not have anything to eat. So, it is important
for all living things, both plants and animals, for it to rain for survival.
5. Who do you think the hero of the story is? Why?
The hero of the story is Ki-pat because
he was able to save the rain from drought. When he caused it to rain, the
plants and animals were able to survive.
