Section 5 pages: 103-125

When I read this section I thought about the fear that Ashley, Miguel and Jack must have experienced.  It reminded me of the time I was chased by a dog when I was a little girl.  I was playing with a friend in my neighborhood one day.  When I headed home a big, yellow dog started running after me.  At first I thought it was nice and wanted to play with me, but as it got closer I realized that it wasn't nice at all.  This dog wanted to eat me for dinner.  I started running away, but I wasn't fast enough.  The dog kept jumping at my back as I ran.  It would catch my hair between it's snarled jaws to try and pull me down.  It made me run faster as I hollered with all my might.  I wasn't far from home and my father had heard my cry.  He sprinted over towards me, swept me off the ground and kicked the dog so hard it made it cower.  I was safe with my family.  Afterwards, I experienced the rush of adrenaline, the excitement of such a frightening moment, and the comfort that I was safe from that vicious dog.  I bet those kids were feeling the same things about getting away from the grizzly.

Has anyone had an experience similar to the one in the book, or is there anything else that you read to make you think of your own experiences?
