Your job is to ask 5 questions, the answers to your questions, and the page and paragraph where the answers are found (if possible).  Be sure you ask questions that really make your group think!!  You need to ask the following types of questions:

1 Effect/Cause Question
2 MCEOG (Multiple Choice End of Grade questions)
1 “Thinking” question on your own
1 Characterization question about a character other than Almanzo

The following are some examples of types of questions you need to ask:

Effect/Cause Question
    -The effect tells what happened.  The cause tells why it happened.  When you are asking an effect/cause question, you can tell your group the effect and have them guess the cause.

For example:
(page 5, paragraph 1)
    -The BIG boys came to school in the middle of the winter term because they wanted to thrash the teacher and break up the school.

Effect: The BIG boys came to school in the middle of the winter term.
Cause: They wanted to thrash the teacher and break up the school.

MCEOG (Multiple Choice End of Grade questions)
    (examples of how to work your questions:)
            -All of the following except..........................
            -Which of the following best describes................................

For example:
    -Which of the following were the names of Almanzo's calves?
        A) Lucille and Fred
        B) Star and Bright
        C) John and David
        D) Sun and Moon

Answer:  B (page 18-19, paragraph 4)

    -Which of the following is a type of food that is described as American?
        A) hot dogs
        B) potatoes
        C) popcorn
        D) ham

Answer:  C (page 33, paragraph 3)

“Thinking” question on your own
    -What type of food would you like to eat for breakfast if you lived with the Wilder family during the late 19th century?

Answer: (page 38, paragraph 1)
Oatmeal with plenty of thick cream and maple sugar, fried potatoes, golden buckwheat cakes, sausages and gravy, preserves and jams and jellies, doughnuts, spicy apple pie

(many answers and opinions can be accepted)

Characterization question about a character other than Almanzo (give words to describe characters and find evidence from the book that proves those are the traits)

For example:
-Mr. Corse (the teacher)
    -fair (page 40, paragraph 1)

(evidence from the book that proves the trait:)
    -The BIG boys will be punished if they are late again to class, however everyone knew that the boys would in fact be late again.  Mr. Corse is fair because he is giving the BIG boys another chance to follow the rules.

(Quote to prove trait:)
    "If this occurs again, I shall punish you.  Everybody knew what would happen next day."
