Descriptive

        Answer: descriptive

4.  This passage is a descriptive type of passage because it describes the beautiful, snowcovered outdoors as well as the people who are out working with their horses.

5.  Think of a good thinking question about the passage.  Write it down along with the answer to this question.
    -What makes this passage descriptive?
        Answer: It describes the snow as a "dazzle of sparkles" and it also describes the men as they haul wood.

6.  Answer one of these questions in a complete sentence(s):  Why did the author include this passage in the story?  What does this passage add to the story?
    -The author included this passage within the story to give the reader a description of nature, the outdoors and the people working at hauling wood.  This passage helps the reader to imagine the land and how people worked during the late 19th century.



Interesting

        Answer: interesting

4.  This passage is a interesting type of passage because it describes an animal product people used to aid them in their everyday lives.

5.  Think of a good thinking question about the passage.  Write it down along with the answer to this question.
    -Why did people use animal products, such as tallow, like Almanzo used?
        Answer: These animal products aided people in their everyday lives.  Almanzo used the tallow to grease his moccasins in order to keep them soft and dry.

6.  Answer one of these questions in a complete sentence(s):  Why did the author include this passage in the story?  What does this passage add to the story?
    -The author included this passage within the story to give the reader more information about things people, living in the 19th century, used to help them live their daily lives.
