The beginning of today’s journey…
After reviewing what we read on the previous day, it is seen that today’s journey begins near Independence Rock and the Sweetwater River. It is near these places that the pioneers stop to recover from their journey. This is also the location where they find Little Thunder, the lost Arapaho Indian.
The pioneers continue to journey westward toward the Rocky Mountains. Just before reaching the Rocky Mountains the pioneers meet up with Little Thunder’s father and he shows them a safe passage through the Rocky Mountains. Not far down the road, before the Rockies, they are in an open plain and are ambushed by bandits. They were still close enough to the Arapaho for one to run and get help. The pioneers and bandits had reached South Pass, the doorway to the Rocky Mountains, when the help of the Arapaho cut them off. The further they traveled the steeper the mountains and deeper the canyons and the trail was so rocky that it became hard to pass. Almost at the end of their journey, they catch a ride on the Columbia River and ride it into Oregon.
After the long journey, the pioneers end in the rich green land of Oregon where they build their new homes.
