Three
Traits:
1) generous—Paul was generous because he helped the “normal” people do things that they could not do. The lumberjacks liked Paul because he provided for them. (p. 15, par. 5) “These lumberjacks . . . plenty of food.”
2) encouraging—Paul was encouraging to Babe, his blue ox, when Paul told Babe that he could do it even though it was tough. He told him that he could do it when Babe was trying to straighten the curvy logging road. (p. 17, par. 5) “You can . . . Paul said.”
3) ambitious—Paul was ambitious because no matter what job he had finished doing, he was always ready to try something new or do another job. Paul grew restless when he wasn’t working on a project. (p. 22, par. 6) “When Paul . . . as ever.”
Goal: Paul’s goal was to help the people of the country any way that he could.
Problem: After Paul cut down the trees in North Dakota, he saw that he had not thought and left behind hundreds and thousands of stumps.
Solution: Paul got the blacksmith to make him a strong maul (a giant hammer) and used it to pound every stump into the ground. (p. 20, par. 1-3)
