“He tried to figure out some way not to give it to X-Ray.  He could just keep it, but that wouldn’t do him any good.  He wanted a day off.”  page 61 How many times have you found something fair and square and some one takes that away from you?  How does that make you feel?  In several other books, movies, and T.V. shows, there is always someone taking from someone else.  Whether it is the guy who always gets the other man’s girl or a thief robbing a bank and getting away with it.
“I don’t know how,” said Zero.  “What?”  “Can you teach me?” page 81-82 Have you ever felt left out because you could not do something?  Did you ever ask for help and the person said no?  When my parents speak in Filipino, I sometimes feel left out because I don’t understand what is going on.  I image that is how Zero felt when he sees Stanley writing.  Even though I want to learn to speak Filipino, just like Zero wants to learn to read, sometimes there is not enough time and energy to be taught.
“Stanley reached down and pulled up the empty burlap sack.  He tried to hand it to Mr. Sir, but he wouldn’t take it.  ‘So tell me Caveman,’ said Mr. Sir, ‘How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole?’  ‘I stole it from your truck.”  page 86 Trying to fit in is hard to do and sometimes we take the blame for something we did not even do.  Have you ever felt like you needed to take the blame to avoid a bigger conflict?  Sometimes taking the blame can cause more trouble than it is worth.  Can you think of a time that someone has taken the blame for you?  How did that make you feel?  Was it worth all of the trouble?
