The Discussion Director's Job is to come up with 5 thought provoking questions. Be sure to write down your questions, the answers to your questions, and the page numbers where the answers can be located or supported.
Types of questions to look for:
The Passage Picker's job is to choose 4 passages that
match the following descriptions, write down their page #, paragraph #,
give an explanation of why the passage you chose is of the selected type,
write a good thinking question about the passage, and answer either:
Why did the author include this passage in the story? or What does this
passage add to the story?
Types of passages to find for this section:
- 2 Personification
- 1 Descriptive
- 2 Simile
The Word Wizard's job is to find the following words in this section of reading, write down the word, page number, paragraph number, copy the sentence from the book, write down the part of speech you believe the word is, write down what you believe the word means, write down the actual definition of the word, write down an explanation of how this word contributes to the meaning of the story (Characters, plot, theme, etc.), and make a word wizard card for selected words. On the word wizard card be sure to include the word, page #, Paragraph #, and on the opposite side of the card you should write the word, its definition, and draw a picture to represent the word.
Suggested Vocabulary Words:
The Character Sketcher's job is to write down 3 implied traits including the page, paragraph number, and an explanation or proof of the traits. Next you need to state the characters goal, problem, and solution or possible solution. Lastly, you need to draw a picture of the character.

The Summarizer's job is to write a descriptive summary of all the major events in the story up to this point in the text and share it with their group.
