1. Character Trait:
Loving (Page 12, Paragraph 3)
Explanation of Trait:
As Mrs. North petted and spoke to Waldo, he licked her on the mouth. Waldo
adored Mrs. North and showed his love for her through his affectionate
behavior.
2. Character Trait:
Attention-Seeking (Page 19, Paragraphs 3-5)
Explanation of Trait:
As Marvin greeted and petted Waldo, Waldo wagged his tail, nuzzled Marvin,
and whined when Marvin stopped scratching him. Waldo did not want
Marvin to stop caressing him because he enjoyed the positive and pleasurable
attention.
3. Character Trait:
Attached (Page 20, Paragraphs 5-9)
Explanation of Trait:
Waldo illustrated fondness for Marvin as he placed his paw over Marvin’s
arm to prevent him from leaving and going to school. As Marvin visited
and cared for Waldo daily, Waldo became very attached or connected to Marvin.
4. Goal: Waldo’s goal was to be cared for and surrounded by people who made him happy, and, in return, he offered love and obedience.
5. Problem: Waldo’s problem was feeling lonely when he was at home alone, without the company of Mrs. North and/or Marvin.
6. Solution:
Through his actions, Waldo encouraged Mrs. North and Marvin to spend time
with him so that he would not be lonely. Waldo whined, licked, nuzzled,
pawed, and wagged his tail in an effort to receive attention and affection
from both Mrs. North and Marvin.
