Why did Mrs. North ask Marvin to look after Waldo?

Effect:  Marvin agreed to look after Waldo
Cause:  Mrs. North was leaving town for a week and did not want to put Waldo in a kennel, since he was such an old dog.  She felt Marvin was a responsible and mature boy who would be a conscientious caretaker of her beloved dog.

2.  One Characterization Question (Page 12, Paragraphs 1-3)

How does Mrs. North feel about Waldo?

Mrs. North adores Waldo and feels he is a very special part of her life.  She demonstrates her love for Waldo by petting him, touching her nose to his, letting him lick her on the mouth, and commenting, “I’m going to miss you, Wa-wa-wa-Waldo!”

3.  One Characterization Question (Page 20, Paragraphs 4-10)

How does Waldo regard Marvin?

Waldo grows fond of Marvin and enjoys when Marvin visits him.  Waldo shows his affection for Marvin as he whines when Marvin begins to leave, nuzzles Marvin, and places his big paw over Marvin’s arm in an attempt to stop him from leaving the house.

4.  One Fact Question (Page 18, Paragraphs 6-7)

What was different about the fence around Marvin’s house?

The fence around Marvin’s house was unique since it was all white except for one red post.  The single red post represented the Redpost family name, and the post supposedly brought good luck to the ones who tapped it.
