The special needs child should be assigned to a group that is reading a book at his/her instructional level and related to the theme of the on-grade-level book being used. A pre-recorded tape of the book should be provided or a peer tutor that can read the nightly assigned pages. Roles can be adjusted and modified to accomodate the strengths and weaknesses of the student. Teacher support should be provided as needed.
