Discussion Director:
The job of the Discussion Director is to develop questions for group
members, to help focus on important parts of each section. These
questions should vary in difficulty and type. For this reading section,
the Discussion Director should create the following types of questions:

MCEOG, 1 Theme, 1 Character Changes, 1 Figurative Language, and 1 Author's
purpose.

Passage Picker:
The Passage Picker's job is to select specific passages, from the reading
section, that are significant in some way. These passages should
be discussed with Literature Circle group. There are many reasons
that a passage might be significant. The Passage Picker should select
passages, from this reading section, for the following reasons: 1 suspenseful,
1 informative, 1 predicting, and 1 important.

Word Wizard:
The job of the Word Wizard is to select words from the reading section
for their literature circle group to examine and discuss. These words
can be chosen for various reasons, such as: word patterns, new or
unknown words, strange words, describing words, words in bold/italics,
etc. For this section, the Word Wizard should choose 4 of the following
words to create word wizard cards for: floundering (p. 129), capricious
(p. 130), reconnoiter (p. 133), brusquely (p. 137), semislumber (140).

Character Sketcher:
The job of Character Sketcher is to create a character map for a main
character of the reading section of their book. This map should include
proof of three character traits, the goal of the character they choose,
the problem faced by that character, and a solution or possible solution
for that character's problem. You should complete a character sketch of
Mr.
Shinn for section six of your reading.

Summarizer:
The job of the Summarizer is to provide their group members with a summary of the important events and themes that have occurred in a particular reading section. The Summarizer should include the who, where, when, and what of the beginning, middle, and end of the reading section. They should also include the main themes of a section. In this case, the Summarizer should summarize the entire book for their group members. Here is an example of the Summarizer role for Night Journeys:
Beginning of Book:
Who (main characters)- Peter York, Mr. Shinn, Elizabeth, Robert
Where- the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
When- Fall of 1767
What- Peter has gone to live with Mr. Shinn since his parents
died, he struggles to prove himself worthy to Mr. Shinn, Peter finds two
runaway bondsman and struggles with whether or not to help them escape.
Peter also wrestles with the idea of leaving town with Elizabeth and Robert.
Middle of Book:
Problem- Peter is struggling with whether to help Elizabeth
and Robert escape or not, he knows it is the right thing to do but does
not want to get in trouble with Mr. Shinn and the law
End of Book:
Solution- Peter helps Elizabeth and Robert get safely out of
the reach of the hunters; he gives them his horse, Jumper. Mr. Shinn
and Peter form a bond over the bondsman situation. Peter does not
get in trouble because Mr. Shinn is now on his side.
Main Themes-
