This story is about a little boy who lived in the Bronx, New York during the Great Depression.  His family is very poor and his father loses his job and has to sell apples on the street to make money. The little boy decides to get a job selling newspapers to help his dad make money. In the book, the boy sells a newspaper to Babe Ruth, who gives him five dollars for the newspaper. The book ends with the little boy going to see Babe Ruth at the Yankees baseball game.
