Modifications
To modify your literature circle lessons to help ESL students, you could:
-
Put them in the lowest reading level.
-
Provide them with a taped reading prior to the lesson.
-
Partner them with an English-speaking child.
-
Do picture sorts with them to build their sight vocabulary, then do word
sorts.
-
Have them do the job of illustrator at first, then move them into word
wizard. The child could incorporate his language in by telling the
word as he knows it.
-
Give them a vocabulary notebook of important but confusing words in the
book.
-
If possible, get a copy of the book in their language.
-
Find websites that they could use to translate words.
Modifications for learning disabled children could include:
-
Provide movement activities for the whole class to help keep the ld child
focused.
-
Allow the child to do whatever they need to do to keep them in the least
restrictive environment, without distracting or disrupting the other children.
-
Let them know the daily schedule so they know what to expect.
-
Partner them with another child to help them with problems.
