2. What did Alyce do to sooth the cow when she was giving
birth to her calves? How would you compare Alyce to the midwife in
this passage?
(p.51 par. 4) Alyce sang and rubbed the cow and called
her sweetheart and good old girl. Alyce is very different from the
midwife in this passage. Instead of being mean and yelling at her
"patient", Alyce speaks soft and soothingly to the cow.
3. Do you think Alyce will ever see Edward again?
Think about why she would or would not see him again,
but here is wht really happens:

a sibling type bond.

Summarizer
section 3 (pages 48-66)
Your job is to prepare a brief summary of today's reading. The other members of your group will be counting on you to give a quick (one or two minute) statement that tells the key points or the main highlights of today's reading assignment.
This is the most significant part in the book. Alyce
gains independence and confidence. She helps deliver Will's cow's
calves. Here she finds out she is needed. Then she saves the
live of Joan, and her baby after the midwife gave up. Alyce finds
her place as a midwife with her own style that is very diiferent from the
midwife in the village. Although she does not realize, Alyce is making
her own way in the world. She also helps a small boy, who is homeless
once like herself. She feeds him and helps him find work. She
is giving back what she got.
